Design of the submerged horizontal plate breakwater using a fully coupled hydroelastic approach

This work provides a novel approach that combines computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with solid mechanics (CSM) to dynamically simulate the fully coupled hydroelastic interaction between nonlinear ocean waves and submerged horizontal plate breakwater (SHPB). Based on systematic series of simulations, it is shown wave damping performance an SHPB can be evidently improved by appropriate extent deformation, which achieved through design its bending stiffness varying elasticity and/or aspect ratio. The attenuation effect found maximized when has deformation amplitude close incident amplitude. By accounting for CFD+CSM approach, this presents new technique supports deformable offshore coastal structures.
